Just Checking In

Drake hooded mergansers show off their plumage on a cloudy day.

Howdy folks. I just wanted to check in and share a few images from the last week or so. I’ve done my best to get out every morning in spite of the roller coaster conditions of late-winter. I can tell spring is on the way as evidenced by greening fields and budding trees. It won’t be long now but I wouldn’t be surprised to see another snow or two before it’s all over for another year. Here are some of my favorite images since I last talked to you. Enjoy!

Winter gobblers, likely two-year-olds that are still goofy in nature but quite impressive to behold. A fifth one is just out of the picture and an older sixth is always nearby as well.

A couple gobblers enjoying the sleet and rain of a Missouri winter. By the looks of their wattles, you would think it is spring already.

A red-bellied woodpecker enjoying Virginia’s homemade suet recipe.

A leucistic cardinal, likely a female, shows off its unique beauty.

Another look at the vibrant beauty of this cardinal.

The coming warm-up should clear the ice on local lakes and wetlands so I’ll be out looking for waterfowl again as they migrate through the area. I’ll do my best to stay in touch as conditions allow.

Happy Naturing,

DB

America is beautiful. I vote to keep it that way.
