Volunteer Appreciation Day at Shaw Nature Reserve (2017)

December 5, 2017

A yellow-rumped warbler enjoys a cedar cone on a cold, winter day in Missouri.

I had a blast today as the presenter at the Shaw Nature Reserve Volunteer Appreciation Day. Much of the success of Shaw Nature Reserve is a direct result of the dedicated volunteers that contribute a great variety of skills to the area’s operation. I met so many friends and followers from the blog, as well as Facebook, this time in real life, face to face. I was humbled to hear from so many of you who genuinely look forward to co-experiencing my adventures through Nature Frames. My presentation included almost 100 wildlife images, all captured at Shaw Nature Reserve over the years. I really enjoy sharing images and anecdotes from my weekly encounters with critters. As I have matured over the years, I’ve learned that the easiest route to happiness is by doing your best to make others happy. I’ve been known to backslide in this endeavor, but I’m only human.

As I visited with people before and after my talk, I learned that many of you are missing announcements about presentations, workshops, publications, and other information that I share on Facebook but not always on this blog. My resolution for 2018 is to correct that discrepancy as I know many of you aren’t on Facebook and I certainly don’t blame you for that choice. I often wonder why I’m on Facebook (Smile). Speaking of Facebook, I have a public site there, also called Nature Frames. You don’t have to “Friend” me or anything like that. You can simply join Facebook and search for the site (easy to do) and click the “follow” button to receive my posts. I post something on the public site almost every day, including a notification every time I write a new blog post here.

Thanks again to all of you for following Nature Frames and I’m looking forward to a great year of wildlife photography adventures in 2018. But let’s not be too hasty because who knows what I might run across over the next few weeks? Fingers crossed!

Thanks for looking,

America is beautiful. I “vote” to keep it that way.
